Hoober - Deep South (Yorkshire)

Hoober Revisited

This painting is a view of Hoober Stand from the east.
At this time of year ( June ) poppies are very prevalent in the fields around here.
This aspect of Hoober caught my eye as I passed close to Hoober village.
Hoober Stand is a Fitzwilliam Folly built to the north of the village of Wentworth.
Measuring 10" x 6.5" on canvas board, this acrylic painting is #19 of 52.
One a week for a year.

Green Shoots in Green Meadow

Butterfly at twelve o'clock

This colourful little friend appears to be enjoying himself - unfortunately the freeze frame doesn't do justice to his areodynamics. As you can see he only just managed to stay in the frame, shy little so 'n' so !
Measuring 10" x 6.5" on canvas board, this acrylic painting is #18 of 52.

Cornwall - Beside the Sea

The Cornish Riviera

On sunny days like today ( Sunday 1st May ) it makes me think about the seaside.
Cornwall especially -  a pint in the 3 Ferrets and sharing a pasty on the beach with good company.
Sounds like a plan to me.

Measuring 10" x 8" on canvas board, this acrylic painting is #17 of 52.
One a week for a year - enjoy.

la Vin - on the slate !

Somewhere ( quelque part ) au Provence

For those eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed something similar to this previously.
Lifted from a bottle of red, this is not necessarily the last of the summer wine.
This acrylic painting is on a 18" x  9" roof slate ( circa 1900 ) - unfortunately bits have fallen off as its gotten older - I know the feeling well.

This is #16 of 52 - one a week for a year.

Abdy ( or thereabouts )

Abdy Lane from Blackamoor

These lovely trees catch my eye every time I drive down Blackamoor Rd
travelling between Swinton and Wentworth.
They seem unnaturally straight somehow, like a brush or a comb on end.
I just had to capture them before all the leaves fully developed
and it all turned into a rather large hedge !
(Maybe an idea for another painting Watson)

Measuring 10" x 6.5" on canvas board, this acrylic painting is #15 of 52.

The Needle's Eye

Views around Wentworth  V

This painting is the " Eye of the Needle " situated adjacent to Coaley Lane, Wentworth.
Built in the 18th century it is one of the 4 Wentworth Follies.
This stone gateway on the Wentworth estate used to straddle a private road
connecting the estate through to Brampton - a village a few miles north.
Legend has it, that Earl Fitzwilliam built this archway as a result of a wager
as to whether he could drive his horse and carriage through the eye of a needle.
(Don't think Ladbrokes were around back then!)

Measuring 10" x 8" on canvas board, this acrylic painting is #14 of 52.
One a week for a year - enjoy.

Rainbow at Hoober Stand

Views around Wentworth  IV

This painting is a reflective view of Hoober Stand during a short sharp shower.
Hoober Stand is a Fitzwilliam Folly built to the north of the village of Wentworth.
From the top, on a clear day you can see York Minster - well so I'm told.
I have taken shelter amongst the trees around there on many occasions.
Measuring 10" x 6.5" on canvas board, this acrylic painting is #13 of 52.
One a week for a year - enjoy.

Evening Sun - Wentworth

Views around Wentworth  III

This is a painting of a silhouetted Wentworth Church taken from Hague Lane looking westerly.
The sun is being partially eclipsed by the church as it starts to bleed around the northern face heading towards the horizon.
Measuring 10" x 6.5" on canvas board, this acrylic painting is #12 of 52.
One a week for a year.

Wentworth Church - Yorkshire

Views around Wentworth II

There's a lovely public footpath in Wentworth running from Clayfield Lane to the Sawmills. It traverses a number of  fields as it passes through the Fitzwilliam Estate. The views from here are magnificent. This painting features a view south from there. The Holy Trinity Church can just be seen as it  rises above the trees in the distance.

Measuring 10" x 6.5" on canvas board, this acrylic painting is #11 of 52.
One a week for a year.

Bondi Beach - Surfer Dude

Whilst Surfer Dude is not normally in my vocabulary, it is in context for picture # 10 of 52.
I must admit that while the weather has been dire around South Yorkshire I couldn't get out to follow up on my Wentworh trilogy/triptych.

So just for fun this is a little bit of down under on a 10" x 6.5" canvas board.
£10 and it can brighten up your wall too.

December - AKA The Big Freeze

The workshop where I produce my pictures has been frozen up throughout most of December with temperatures inside there of minus 10 and worse. Hence there's not much getting done at the mo in there. Take a look at the ice out of my water bucket - frozen solid from inside of the shed. Imagine how much whiskey you'd need to float that little beauty in.

Meanwhile, all is not lost, I'm insulating the workshop as a work in progress, ready for the next cold spell. You watch we'll probably have the hottest summer on record now !
Look out for my next paintings coming soon in January, oh
and on that timely note have a happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year to you all.

Stop Press :-
Here we have the insulated Workshop (Feb 2011).
Complete with an oil filled radiator for those extra cold Yorkshire days.
And those buckets in the corner, they were solid blocks of ice before.

I could just fit a nice comfy sofa in that corner over there.
